  • The US Virgin Islands are 1,650 miles from New York and 600 miles from Miami; many arrive to America's Paradise via cruise ships. Usually, cruise ship visitors don't have the time to visit the island of St. John. As such visitors to St. John usually get to the US Virgin Islands by air. For those visiting the US Virgin Islands by air with the intention of getting to St. John, here are some tidbits you ought to know:

  1. US Virgin Islands has 2 major airports, Cyril E. King Airport on St. Thomas and the Henry E. Rohlsen Airport on St. Croix,
  2. If visiting St. John use the Cyril E. King Airport (STT),
  3. St. John, Virgin Islands has no airports,
  4. Airlines with direct domestic flights to and from major continental American cities are: Delta Airlines, United Airlines, Spirit Airlines, American Airlines, and Jet Blue,
  5. To get to St. John from St. Thomas you can use private charter boat, passenger ferry or car ferry,
  6. You have to go through Customs and Immigration when returning to the continental USA,
  7. If you are a US Citizen, no passports are required to get to the US Virgin Islands from the continental USA.
Love City Car Ferries, Inc. offers 7 round trip car ferry rides to the island of St. John. You can book online. We require 3 days advance booking for all reservations. For directions from the Cyril E. King Airport in St. Thomas to the Red Hook Docks, see here; but also do your research. Reservation tickets are not transferable on the first leg of the trip, so be sure to board either the M/V Capt Vic or the M/V Island Vic only. Contact us if you have any questions or concerns. See you on board:)
PS. The uniformed personnel on the docks are usually employed by the Virgin Islands Port Authority or its agents. Car ferry services are paid on board the vessel only.
