We will never forget September 11, 2001.
I was in Red Hook waiting for the M/V Capt Vic to arrive so that I could go to St. John and begin another day of work. My radio broadcast was interrupted with what seemed like tragic news about events in New York City (NYC.) I didn't know what exactly had happened until I arrived home and saw total chaos on the television. It was still hard to believe. I had to look, listen, ponder and ask myself "is this really happening??". My disbelief did not change the fact NYC was under attack. It has been 14 years since that tragic day and I ask myself how do I feel. As I reflect, I remain hopeful that though the event was utterly tragic, some good has come out of it. It is my prayer that we are a stronger America; a more compassionate and loving people; I further hope that we embrace our differences and celebrate our uniqueness. It is my sincerest hope that we live in global peace and harmony. |
