We are aware of the recent concerns and discussions surrounding our recent price adjustment. We hear you, and we want to address the situation directly and transparently. Our goal has always been to serve this community, and that commitment remains as strong today as it was when we first started. Love City Car Ferries is not a large corporation. We are a small, locally-owned, family-run business that began in 1997, founded by a husband and wife team who, along with their dedicated employees, continue to operate the ferry today. We do not have millionaire investors, institutional backers, EDC benefits, nor government subsidies. We are simply your neighbors, doing our best to provide a vital service to the island we all call home. The recent decision to adjust our prices was not made lightly. It was a direct response to the Virgin Islands Port Authority's 50% increase in docking fees. Like any business, we must ensure our long-term sustainability to continue serving you. Without the financial cushions that some of our competitors may have, we must adapt to market changes to remain a viable company for years to come. We also want to clarify some misinformation that has been circulating. First, our loyalty program is not a new idea. Love City Car Ferries launched the Vic Sea Miles Club program around 2010, as announced on our blog and covered by publications like News of St. John in its article entitled Name that Dolphin: newsofstjohn.com/tag/virgin-islands/page/13/. Second, we have always been committed to rewarding that loyalty. Finally, regarding our social media presence: our official Facebook page and other similar platforms were deactivated about seven years ago. This was a difficult decision made because we did not have the resources to manage and respond to the high volume of comments in real-time. We redirected our communications to our official blog, where we can provide clear, accurate information. While we have recently resumed activity on Instagram, we did not resume the use of Facebook. For the most reliable updates, please visit our Blog. Our Commitment Our commitment to St. John extends beyond our ferry schedule. We have always believed in having a heart for the people, which is why we have made numerous charitable contributions to our community over many years. We were here for you during the most challenging of times. When others stopped operating, for months, during COVID-19 lockdowns, we kept running. We ran because St. John needed food, fuel, mail, water, construction materials, and medical supplies. We ran when we did not earn one penny and instead gave away hundreds of thousands of dollars in fuel and service to the community. We are not, and have never been, driven by a pure profit motive. We are here because we are willing to serve. The recent wave of negative commentary, especially from our fellow residents, has been disheartening. It does real harm to this small, family-owned company that has worked tirelessly for this community. We urge you, especially our St. John residents, to give us the opportunity to continue serving you with the utmost professionalism.
