“The gladdest moment in human life, me thinks, is a departure into unknown lands.” – Sir Richard Burton It's summer! I know you haven't forgotten:) Wanted to share some free travel apps that you might find interesting as you explore. As you plan your travels you might want help, trust me family members probably won't offer you much assistance. Tripit constructs an itinerary for you. You can rent a car, hotel, and make dinner reservations all from the convenience of your smart phone. Not to mention, you can communicate the information with others who are on the trip. When we went to South Carolina last fall, I personally used Tripit and it was wonderful. I had less work before the trip and a lot more fun. I just found a second app that I think will be quite useful. I haven't had the pleasure of using it yet, but I most certainly will the next time we head to a new place. Postagram is a post office in your pocket. Have you ever gone to a picturesque destination like the Virgin Islands and bought postcards to send home to family and friends? Well with Postagram you can just snap a picture and send an actual postcard for as little as $0.99. Imagine a postcard with this beautiful image and you didn't have to go into a store and buy it. Your friends and family will get a little taste of your creativity and will be able to see the scenery that you found inspiritational even before you go back home. A third app that can be quite useful is Google Translate. In the Virgin Islands we primarily speak a creole English that Google translate does not interpret. But as the melting pot of the Caribbean there are other languages spoken like French Creole and Spanish. The app is quite useful if you are visiting anyplace, but especially destinations where English is not the first language spoken. Just say it in English and the app will translate in whatever language you choose. For me personally, I would love to visit Paris someday and I will definitely have this app handy for my excursions in this beautiful city. Whether you are a tourist visiting the Virgin Islands or you are a Virgin Islander thinking of going abroad, these apps will help you have more fun as you take a well deserved summer break.

Are you enjoying your summer? Have you and the family gotten away to some exotic place or are the kids at home driving you up the wall by calling you at the office every 5 minutes and eating you out of house and home? Well if you can't get away, then maybe you need a mini staycation. A staycation is a vacation where you remain at home but you find new and interesting things to do.
There are so many things to do in the Virgin Islands. If you live on St. John, then hop over to St. Thomas and have some fun. Here is a link with interesting things to do in St. Thomas. And if you are on St. Thomas then bring the kids over and relax and meditate on St. John. The Activities Guide has a lot of information of places to go and things to do in Love City. At least the kids will be able to report that the did something different when they return to school in August. And you won't be pestered so much anymore. The summer isn't over. Do something different. We are here to serve you. Book your round trip on board the M/V Capt. Vic and let your staycation begin. |
